Visiting a homestay in the North of Thailand guests take part in a traditional Basi ceremony, a process believed to call back the 32 fragmented parts of your spirit thought to scatter amid life’s trials & tribulations. Once the fragments of soul are called back they are secured to the body with string tied around the wrist, an action also accompanied with a blessing. The ceremony is traditionally performed as a welcome to guests/travelers, before embarking on a new life adventure, for newborns, marriages, sickness, funerals, new year… in fact a whole host of important occasions! This particular moment was captured in Bang Wang Nam Mawk on the ‘North by Northeast’ pioneering tour.
