Chiang Mai, the ancient capital of the former Lanna Kingdom, will be celebrating Loy Krathong and Yee Peng festivals from the 2nd – 4th November 2017. This is the time you will see twinkling lights wandering downriver, hanging from trees, buildings, and temples, and soaring high into the sky.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has announced the schedule of events for this year Chiang Mai’s Loy Krathong and Yee Peng Festivals.

Schedules of 2017 Loy Krathong & Yee Peng Festivals in Chiang Mai

November 2, at 6.00pm:
Opening activities of lighting candle trays, with traditional Lanna dance at the Three Kings Monument.
November 2, at 7.00pm:
The opening ceremony of 2017 Chiang Mai Yee Peng Festival at Lanna Folklife Museum.
November 2, from 7.00pm to 11.00pm:
Lighting candle trays around city moat at all city fortresses.

Worshipping ritual to House Spirits, White Pagoda and Ping River, at Chiang Mai Municipality Office, Sri Khong Pier.
November 3, from 6.00am to 8.00pm:
The Great Sermon hosted at eight temples including Wat Suan Dok, Wat Chiang Yuen, Wat Chai Sri Poom, Wat Bupparam, Wat Chai Mongkol, Wat Nuntaram, Wat Rampueng and Wat Jed Yod.
November 3, from 7.00pm to 10.00pm:
Floating of Lanna tiny candlelight (Krathong Sai) at Mae Ping riverbank.

November 2-4, from 6.00pm to 12.00midnight:
Musical stage performance for anti-alcoholic drinks campaign, at The First Church Of Chiang Mai (Nawarat Bridge).

Tourists are allowed to release fire lanterns between 7.00pm and 1.00am, on November 3rd and 4th, at Nawarat Bridge.
